Sky Tavern Race Team

The Sky Tavern Race Team strives to instill a lifelong love of skiing while helping athletes develop the strong technical foundation needed for confident skiing and racing. While the program includes race training and competition opportunities, the primary focus is teaching young skiers how to navigate varied terrain with control, technique, and confidence.

At Sky Tavern, we recognize that every athlete progresses differently. Our coaches foster an encouraging and inclusive team environment where skiers are challenged, supported, and motivated to continue improving. You’ll often find athletes eager for one more run — even during challenging conditions — which speaks to the excitement and camaraderie of the program.

For skiers interested in competition, the team supports athletes participating in the Far West Tahoe Race Series, a development-focused race league designed to promote lifelong enjoyment, sportsmanship, and friendship through ski racing.

Race Team training is led by certified and experienced coaches, and volunteer support plays an important role in the program’s success. Families and members interested in helping with coaching support, course setup, or breakdown are encouraged to participate. Volunteer opportunities to support the team are available on and off the hill. We can teach you to lead and support the team environment.

FREESTYLE SKI & SNOWBOARD team

"Freestyle skiing is the ultimate expression of freedom and creativity on the slopes. It's about breaking free from convention, pushing boundaries, and blazing your own trail." - SkierBOB

Sky Tavern Freestyle invites beginner to intermediate ski and snowboard students to experience park features, big mountain terrain, and competitions in a supportive, fun environment.

Led by AASI/PSIA-certified freestyle coaches, the program combines structured lessons, one-on-one coaching, and guided discovery to help students develop their freestyle abilities. Strength training begins on snow and focuses on air and rotational awareness through a unique “outside-in” approach, building skills from the ground up. Students will start in the beginner freestyle park, progressing to our main park with boxes, rails, and jumps.

We ask parents to take an active role in the child's development by providing on-the-hill support with warm-up exercises, assisting with practice, and maintaining the park before, during, and after class. We strongly encourage athletes to attend both Saturday and Sunday instruction from 8:30 to 12:30.

Sky Tavern will host several competitions during the season. While we understand that parents and athletes may be unable to attend every event, remember: the more time and dedication you put in; the faster progress occurs.

Program Requirements:

  • Athletes must confidently manage blue terrain and control speed through turn shape

  • Skiers and riders should feel comfortable skiing or riding in trees and riding switch (backward) on green terrain
