FULL SCHEDULE COMING SOON
What can I expect camping at the venue?
If camping in a vehicle, you are invited to camp in the upper parking lot near the lodge (there are no hookups). This includes vehicle, RV, trailer camping. If tent camping, you can set up your tent near the aspen grove (we can direct you where).
Are there bathrooms?
You betcha! Bathrooms will be open in the lodge. Please note there are no showers.
No fires are permitted.
Gas cooking stoves are permitted in the parking lot.
Will there be a place to lock up my bike?
Bikes can be stored in the lodge.
What can I expect from the coaching sessions?
Riders will be split into small groups based on their experience and abilities. Our professional coaches are able to coach a variety of skills: stability and balance, improved braking techniques, body position and range of motion, climbing techniques, cornering, wheel lifts, roll downs, tactics in technical terrain, intro to drops and jumps. Our coaches will help guide you to specific skills that will help you meet your goals! We will ride trails to put our skills into practice and will session features on trails as you wish!
Bikes and Gear - all you need to know and what you need to bring for a successful weekend.
What bike should I bring?
A modern mountain bike with disc brakes and front suspension is required. Flat pedals are highly encouraged! A full suspension mountain bike is ideal for Sky Tavern’s terrain. Riders with all-mountain/enduro full suspension mountain bikes will have a better time on our black/double black trails. Remember to check over your bike before the clinic: tires, brakes, gears, shocks, wheels and frame as it’s no fun dealing with mechanicals when learning new skills.
What protective gear should I bring?
Properly fitted CPSC Certified helmets, eye protection, knee pads and gloves are required. Any other body armor you feel comfortable riding in is optional. Body armor, elbow pads and full face helmets are highly recommended if interested in our black/double black terrain.
Are eMTBs ok?
Only Class 1 eMTBs are permitted (pedal assist, no throttle allowed). We are shuttling all weekend, so a regular mountain bike is highly recommended if you have one.
What other bike-related things should I bring?
All riders must carry their own water, snacks, and fix-a-flat supplies (correct spare tube size). We recommend carrying a multi-tool, tire levers, and pump as well. If you’re not sure what size of tire/tube you have, check out this video.
I need a packing list please :).

MEET OUR Head Coaches
Kira Deschaux
Kira was introduced to mountain biking in college while pursuing a degree in Outdoor Education. Realizing the sport had made a huge impact on her life, she knew she wanted to share the sport with others.
While traveling in Australia in 2017, she took the PMBIA Level 1 Instructor course and began coaching youth throughout the country. Upon returning to the US, Kira raced a few enduros, eventually landing work in the bike industry.
Now a Level 2 instructor, she has instructed with Sweetlines in Washington, Northstar Bike Park, Dirt Series, and Tahoe XC. Kira loves to teach and share her passion for the sport with others. She is excited to grow the Riders in the Sky program, encouraging more local riders on the trails!
Kristen martin del campo
Kristen has over a decade of experience coaching mountain biking, holding a B.S. in Exercise Science. She moved to Tahoe after school, scraping her knees many times over as she learned to ride.
Hoping to help others learn through better methods and fewer cuts and bruises, she began instructing at Northstar, then Tahoe XC and Dirt Series, becoming a certified Level 2 coach. She continues to race downhill and enduro in her free time, always wearing her kneepads.
Support sky tavern’S MOUNTAIN biking trails
Trails don’t build themselves. 100% of the costs of trail building at Sky Tavern are covered by fundraising. Donations from the community are the foundation of public trail access. With fundraising efforts, the construction of new trails can be put on the fast track. If you enjoy shredding Sky Tavern, please contribute to the next phases of trail development.
